During the transition from the children’s program to the youth program, youngsters begin to understand more abstract thinking and begin to consider lifelong faith decisions. Also, during these years youth are seeking a sense of belonging. Belonging to the community of faith is an appropriate response to that developmental task.
Confirmation in The United Methodist Church is a time of intentional preparation, it gives teens and tweens the opportunity to reflect on the most basic tenants of our faith and gives them a safe environment to ask questions and become engaged with the divine truths and mysteries proclaimed by the church of Jesus Christ. Confirmation helps youth to better understand the depths of the faith and helps them begin to learn what it means to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
Confirmation at Forsyth UMC enables our young people to respond to God’s call in faith. Confirmation classes include an age appropriate overview of the Christian faith, history, scripture, practices, beliefs, and commitments as United Methodists. The confirmation classes usually begin in September and end with a retreat about the first of May. At the confirmation ceremony, these youth then declare their faith publicly and become full members of the church. Pastor Rick and Ms. Cathy are looking forward to this year’s exploration of faith and growth in the name of Christ.
Open hearts, open minds, open doors; the people of Forsyth United Methodist Church take seriously the challenges facing the world today. God is always calling us to be disciples of the gospel and to be loving neighbors. We warmly welcome all to come and join us.
